The Minor in Jazz and Commercial Music is designed to offer rudimentary instruction in Jazz theory, improvisation, keyboard, history, performance skills, arranging & composition.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate rudimentary skills in Jazz theory, keyboard, arranging and composition.
  • Perform and improvise at a skill level consistent with the expectations of the Division of Jazz and Commercial Music and School of Music.
  • Identify prominent figures in jazz history and name prominent works, characteristics, and other stylistic considerations.
  • Work well with others in different ensemble settings.
