About Handshake
Career Services & Workforce Development has partnered with Handshake to assist employers and students in connecting. Handshake is the largest early talent recruiting platform connecting employers, talent, and colleges in one place. Handshake's mission is to democratize access to opportunity: to help every student find the right job, no matter where they're from or who they know.
Recruiting Students on Handshake
Step 1: Create a Recruiter Account
Enter your information and verify your email address. Email addresses should be the same as your company domain.
Step 2: Connect With Your Company’s Account
Companies With an Existing Handshake Account
- You should be automatically connected to your company’s account if you log in with a company email address. If you are not automatically connected, you can request to join that account. This request will be sent to the account owner for approval. If the account owner is no longer with the company, please reach out to us at careerworkforce@unlv.edu.
- If your company already has a Handshake account, logging in with your company email should connect you automatically. If not, you can request to join the account, which will need approval from the account owner. If the account owner is no longer with the company, email careerworkforce@unlv.edu for assistance.
- If your company does not have a Handshake account, you'll be prompted to create one by providing details such as the website, location, description, and logo. Note that if your email domain does not match your website or you use a residential address, Handshake may not approve your account. For help, contact careerworkforce@unlv.edu.
Companies Who Do Not Have an Existing Handshake Account
- If your company is not on Handshake, you'll be prompted to create an account by adding information such as website, location, description, and logo. However, if your email domain does not match your website or you use a residential address, Handshake might not approve your company. Contact careerworkforce@unlv.edu for help with joining or creating your company account.
Step 3: Connect With UNLV
- To add UNLV as one of your recruiting interests, click the “Schools” tab on the menu on the left-hand side of your Handshake homepage.
- To connect with UNLV, click the option to search for more schools on Handshake. Search for UNLV using the full name: University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Once the connection has been approved, UNLV will be listed under Your Employer's Schools.
Step 4: Post Jobs and Internships
-
Select “Post a Job” from the homepage. The Handshake Job Builder will guide you through the process of completing your job or internship posting.
-
Complete all required information, and ensure you are selecting options that accurately reflect your location, pay, work authorizations, etc. Note that UNLV will not approve incomplete or misleading job postings
-
You may choose whether you prefer applicants to apply on Handshake or through your external system.
-
Be sure to select UNLV from the school options so UNLV students and alumni see the position.
Step 5: Attend and Create Events
Handshake is your access point for all types of recruiting programming at UNLV. The homepage displays a feed of events organized by the campuses your employer has connected with.
- To request to host an off-campus or virtual employer event such as an information session, networking event, or workshop, select “Events” from the menu on the left-hand side of your Handshake homepage and choose “Request Event.” Follow the prompts to share details about your event.
- To participate in a career and internship fair, select “Fairs” from the menu and choose from a full list of upcoming career fair events involving your chosen campuses.
Step 6: Connect with Students and Alumni
You may search for students by school year, major, school, etc., by selecting “Talent” from the menu. Non-premium Handshake users may send up to 100 personalized messages to students per recruiting season.
