“Ancestor” by Athena
Art carries a rich, long, and diverse legacy within anthropology and in the spirit of Anthropology Week, we desire to showcase the artistic talents of our community members. Wishing to highlight not only their abilities, but the often-under-appreciated creative potential and expression within as well as around our field. The annual exhibit is a space for UNLV students of all levels who have taken anthropology courses as well as faculty members to share their artistic interpretations and inspirations related to anthropology and its subfields: cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, archaeology, and biological anthropology.
In this art, we would like to see where the creator looks back at their anthropology classes, discussions, and debate to create original artwork. We encourage the use of a diverse array of mediums such as photography, drawing and painting as well as sculpture and mixed media as means to express anthropological perspectives.
