Ren McMullin’s typical work day leverages her creativity as well as her interpersonal and analytical skills. As content marketing specialist for the Division of Integrated Marketing and Branding, Ren’s role includes writing articles on cool classes, developing messaging for ad campaigns, and gathering market research and web analytics for academic programs. She was recently selected for Administrative Faculty of the Month for her collaborative work.
“My job as content marketing specialist provides a nice balance between design and data, shared Ren. I have the opportunity to meet and interview so many people who are experts in their field. I’m learning about subjects I wouldn’t normally have exposure to if I didn’t work at UNLV.”
When asked what trait she likes most about herself, Ren replied, “I like that I’m a friendly person. Kindness opens doors to opportunity. You never know who you might meet or what you may learn or experience from talking to new people.”
While in college, Ren had the opportunity to work as an assistant to a personal stylist in Tokyo. Even today, she draws her creative inspiration from fashion. “I love seeing all the confident women on campus, expressing their unique style. Fashion has a way of connecting our individuality to culture and to history.”
When asked what issues women are facing today, Ren expressed her concern for health and safety. “As a working mom, you’re doing double-duty every day. Making time for personal growth and wellness can be challenging. That’s why I enjoy serving as co-chair for the Women’s Council Health and Safety task force. Planning programs about financial health and mental wellness is rewarding and exciting to share with other women on campus.”
Ren’s parting advice for young women starting their careers is simple, volunteer! “Take just an hour or two every year to volunteer. At UNLV, it’s a great way to meet and make connections with other people on campus. It’s a win-win for you and for the important causes we need to support for our campus community.”
