Sometimes UNLV employees receive emails that appear to be legitimate but are actually fraudulent. To help protect yourself from phishing email scams, it is recommended to follow these steps. 

• Pay attention to the subject and who sent you the email. If you notice an unusual name or email address, chances are it is fake. 
• Look closely at the body of the email. Be wary of emails that have obvious spelling errors, improper grammar, and that use threatening language to urge you to take immediate action. 
• Do not click on suspicious links. To verify the authenticity of a link, simply hover over it to display the URL. You can also search the company or organization in your browser to see if it is legitimate.
• Do not open or download attachments. Opening or downloading email attachments could result in your computer being infected with viruses or malware. To protect you against this, all university-barcoded computers have antivirus software installed on them.
