Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe absorbed Las Vegas into its orbit and brought Chuck Leavell (famous for being a part of the Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers Band, and dozens of other incredible music acts) along for the ride. The venue was Brooklyn Bowl, so I was confident that I was about to have a killer Friday night.

Opening act Funkxilla got everyone in the mood, performing covers of songs like Let’s Groove Tonight, Play That Funky Music, and California Love. Every song was a banger, and the crowd was almost feral waiting for Karl.

Leavell being a part of the Tiny Universe just makes sense, considering both have performed with the Rolling Stones. Tiny Universe? Small world. Both bring so much to the table musically, absolutely rocking the funk out, that it upsets me to think about this collaboration as a fleeting moment in musical time.

My trip to Brooklyn Bowl was a solo flight, but the soul of the Tiny Universe really makes a guy feel the oneness with everyone else on the floor. There was certainly a diverse crowd of characters surrounding me, but every single person couldn’t help but get down in their own way.

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe Tour continues on the east coast from New York all the way down to Florida. Certainly a long way from us here in Vegas, but an absolute must see show if you have the chance.
