Dear Colleagues,
Today, the Board of Regents voted to approve the full 12% cost of living adjustments (COLA) in salaries for academic and administrative faculty at all NSHE institutions for Fiscal Year 2024, which begins July 1.
This follows passage of Assembly Bill 522 during the recent Legislative Session that included a COLA for eligible classified staff of 12% in FY 2024, and an adjustment not to exceed that rate for academic and administrative faculty during that time frame. The Board did not vote on COLA increases for academic and administrative faculty in FY 2025, and will return at a future meeting to discuss and take action on this item.
I was a staunch advocate for the full 12% COLA increase from the beginning of this discussion, and I firmly believe this was the right decision for our university.
This is the largest cost-of-living raise in more than 30 years for our people here at UNLV, which is welcome news given the tremendous rise in inflation and a recent history of little or no COLA.
I want to express my sincere appreciation to our classified staff, and our academic and administrative faculty, for your numerous contributions to our university. I am personally grateful to all of you for your enduring commitment to UNLV and our mission.
I also want to thank the Board of Regents for recognizing the important contributions that you all have made to advance our university and our state through the years.
Please enjoy these next few weeks and recharge as we ready ourselves for an exciting and fruitful fall semester. I appreciate all you do for UNLV every day.
Warm regards,
Keith E. Whitfield, Ph.D.
UNLV President
