Ladores, a leading pediatric nurse practitioner and Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, begins her new role at UNLV on Sept. 1.

Following the completion of an international search, UNLV is pleased to announce Sigrid Ladores, Ph.D., RN, PNP, CNE, FAAN, as the new dean of the School of Nursing, effective Sept. 1, 2024. Ladores joins UNLV from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where she serves as chair of the highly ranked UAB School of Nursing’s Department of Family, Community, and Health Systems, overseeing nearly 80 full-time faculty and instructors.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Ladores to UNLV,” said Executive Vice President and Provost Chris L. Heavey. “Her extensive background in nursing education, research, and grant activity as well as her commitment to diversity and inclusion will be invaluable as she leads the next stages of growth and progress in our School of Nursing.”

An expert in pediatric nursing and a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, Ladores has made significant contributions in various leadership roles during her tenure at UAB, including department chair, director of the Ph.D. program, and co-director of the Honors Program. Her research, focused on reproductive health and quality of life for adolescents and adults with chronic illnesses, has earned her numerous peer-reviewed publications, substantial grant funding, and various honors and accolades.

“I am honored to be selected as the dean of the School of Nursing at UNLV,” said Ladores. “I look forward to collaborating with the faculty, staff, and students to advance the school’s mission and enhance our impact on the community.”

Her leadership in nursing education extends nationally through her involvement with the National League for Nursing and the Philippine Nurses Association of America, where she has held several positions. She has also contributed significantly to research on cystic fibrosis, securing multiple grants to support her work.

“We believe Dr. Ladores is uniquely positioned to lead our School of Nursing,” said UNLV President Keith E. Whitfield. “Her dedication to education and research aligns perfectly with our strategic goals and priorities.  I can’t wait to see the school’s continued success in the years ahead.”

Ladores’ vision for the School of Nursing includes advancing faculty research, increasing student success, expanding community partnerships, and growing graduate nursing education. She aims to build on the school’s strong foundation and propel it to new heights in nursing education and healthcare innovation.

Ladores earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from the University of Central Florida as well as a MSN and BSN from the University of Pennsylvania. She holds active RN licenses in Alabama and Florida.
