Denisse Franco is a second-year Ph.D. student in the Mechanical Engineering program (Nuclear Engineering track) at UNLV. She joined NSSTC in 2023 and works under the guidance of Dr. Alex Barzilov. Areas of her research encompass the analysis of multi-mode scintillation detectors and their applications for nuclear security. Previously, Denisse was an intern in the Department of Energy's Office of Nuclear Energy and a STEM mentor for an UNLV program funded by the National Science Foundation. Other accomplishments include her selection to participate in a summer program in Advanced Manufacturing for Nonproliferation at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Georgia Institute of Technology.Through the NSSTC, Denisse is taking part in a summer program at the Nevada National Security Sites in which she continues her collaboration regarding the analysis of radiation detectors.
