Slow Art Day 2025
Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art
Saturday, April 5, 2025
10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Free
Slow looking—slowing down and treating each artwork like a special event—is a transformative practice that makes time for new understanding of art. Please join us this April for Slow Art Day 2025. Participants will meet in the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art to enjoy slow looking in front of a small number of artworks, followed by a thoughtful discussion about what they experienced.
Slow Art Day is a worldwide movement that takes place annually in museums, galleries, artist studios, and any other venue where art can be found. At the Marjorie Barrick Museum we’ll concentrate on artworks from two of our current exhibitions, Color Made, and Yoko Kondo Konopik: On Canvas.
“Neuroscience has confirmed what ancient artists always knew: we see only a tiny fraction of what is around us. To widen the lens and allow more in, we must slow down. And it turns out that slowing down not only helps us see more, but … brings with it the joy of discovering more“ —the Slow Art Day website.
Slow Art Day 2025 takes place at the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The event is free and everyone is welcome. No previous experience of art is needed. Parking on campus near the museum is free all day on weekends.
All of the museum’s galleries are accessible to wheelchair users and other visitors who cannot use stairs. Services such as sign language interpretation can be arranged. Please contact the museum to discuss your needs: barrick.museum@unlv.edu, 702-895-3381.
About the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art
The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art believes everyone deserves access to art that challenges our understanding of the present and inspires us to create a future that holds space for us all. Located on the campus of one of the most racially diverse universities in the U.S., we strive to create a nourishing environment for those who continue to be neglected by contemporary art museums. As the only art museum in the city of Las Vegas, we commit ourselves to leveling barriers that limit access to the arts. Our collection of artworks offers an opportunity for everyone to develop a deeper knowledge of contemporary art in Southern Nevada. The Barrick Museum is part of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
