A childlike illustration in warm, friendly browns and greens. A hand offers a leafy plant to a terracotta plant pot, a watering can pours water into the air, and cactuses stand in the background. For some reason a paintbrush is jutting out of leaves next to the pot.

12 p.m.-2 p.m.
Free

Join us in the garden for a hands-on experience of healing and connection.

Guests are invited to take part in three different activity stations. At one station, a workshop hosted by the local gardening shop LV Plant Collective will teach you to nurture small plants. A second station will show you how you can reflect on your personal growth by creating affirming plant tags. At the third station, you can express yourself by using art materials to paint and customize terracotta planting pots.

The Rebel Roots Garden Club, an on-campus organization based in UNLV’s Community Garden, will be here with useful information and gardening tips.

Please note that seating for the initial plant care workshop is limited. Go to bit.ly/plantworkshoprsvp to register for this activity. No registration is necessary for writing affirming tags or customizing terracotta pots.

This event is organized by The Care Center in collaboration with the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art. It is part of Healing Through Connections, a regular program of Care Center workshops, retreats, and other resources that promote holistic healing from violence. (Join their email list to receive news about future events.) Roots of Healing takes place in the Donald H. Baepler Xeric Garden directly outside the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art. About the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art
The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art believes everyone deserves access to art that challenges our understanding of the present and inspires us to create a future that holds space for us all. Located on the campus of one of the most racially diverse universities in the U.S., we strive to create a nourishing environment for those who continue to be neglected by contemporary art museums. As the only art museum in the city of Las Vegas, we commit ourselves to leveling barriers that limit access to the arts. Our collection of artworks offers an opportunity for everyone to develop a deeper knowledge of contemporary art in Southern Nevada. The Barrick Museum is part of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
