Dec. 12, 2024

The NSHE Regents recently approved a plan to change the structure of the B.A. programs housed in the Department of Interdisciplinary, Gender, and Ethnic Studies to create a single B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies, with students declaring a concentration in one of our six academic programs (e.g., African American and African Diaspora Studies, Asian and Asian American Studies, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Latinx and Latin American Studies, Social Science Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies).

This new B.A. degree will go into effect in Spring 2025.

If you are a current IGES major your course of study will remain unchanged and you will receive the B.A. degree that you declared. You also have the option to “opt in” to this new B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies if you so choose, without any changes to your degree requirement.

Current IGES majors will have through Spring 2028 to complete their degree under its current name. Students who have not completed their degree by Spring 2028 will receive a B.A. Interdisciplinary Studies.

The academic programs housed in IGES will continue to exist as unique degree pathways and programs of academic study.

If you wish to opt-in to this new degree please reach out to Wilson Advising for Assistance at 702-895-1997. If you have additional questions, please reach out to Dr. Lynn Comella, IGES Department Chair, at lynn.comella@unlv.edu
