New Class Offering for spring 2025: PHYS 108 - Physics for a Better Environment. This class teaches students about renewable energy solutions to the climate problem. It focuses on examples in Nevada. It is timely as UNLV is implementing its Climate Action Plan. PHYS 108 & 108L satisfies the general education requirement for a physical science course and lab. Free online textbook provided.

Break Through Tech is now recruiting fellows for the 2025-26 AI Program, which will begin in June 2025! The AI Program is a free, virtual, one-year extracurricular experience that equips you with the skills needed to secure a job in the fastest-growing areas of tech: data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML). Developed by industry and academic leaders, you will master the skills necessary to become a successful machine learning engineer. Complete our ML Foundations curriculum over the summer and tackle industry projects hosted by leading companies during the academic year. Along the way, you will learn practical, industry-relevant skills that will qualify you for entry-level jobs in the field, including building data analysis pipelines and utilizing common ML and AI tools and libraries to train and validate ML models. At the same time, you will receive career coaching, mentorship, and summer internship placement support, all aimed at helping you successfully launch your career in machine learning and AI. All fellows who complete the program will receive a $2,000 award. Interested in learning more? We are pleased to share the attached information for 2025 internship opportunities from Nevada National Security Sites, operated by Mission Support and Test Services (NNSS/MSTS). Please share with students in your Department and faculty or student advisors to encourage interested students to apply.  The sciences opportunities include undergraduate and graduate-level positions in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geoscience and Health Physics. Student applications are due December 19, 2024 for internships running from May 20 through August 8, 2025. US citizenship is required for all positions.

The College of Sciences and the UNLV galleries will be curating the fourth installment of Inquiry: The Art of Scientific Discovery.  The exhibit will take place during the last half of spring semester 2025 (March 31 through May 16, 2025). This will proceed in largely the same manner as previous exhibits.  Most pieces will be large-format, 2-dimensional artwork related to the scientific research that occurs on campus. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to email a prototype of their entries by February 7, 2025 to: scienceart@unlv.edu Accepted pieces will receive further instructions shortly thereafter.
