Associate professor of Landscape Architecture, Phillip Zawarus, alongside UNLV colleagues; associate professor in residence Alison Sloat, Department of Sciences; and Professor Dale Devitt, Department of Life Sciences was awarded a $5 million Urban and Community Forestry Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s U.S. Forest Service.

Their Las Vegas Urban Forest Center project will engage and educate residents of Clark County, NV, about the importance of trees in cities and provide professional development for arborists in-training. Additionally, this project will work to increase the extent of urban tree canopy to combat extreme heat in disadvantaged communities.
