Thanks to an ongoing partnership with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the College of Fine Arts recently sent a group of musicians to the Classical Music Festival in Austria, Aug. 7-16. They performed works of Franz Joseph Haydn at the Stephansdom (Cathedral) in Vienna, the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt, and the Bergkirche in Eisenstadt.
“We are thrilled and honored to have the partnership between the College of Fine Arts at UNLV and the Las Vegas Philharmonic," said Dean Nancy Uscher. "This opportunity for students to perform at the Classical Music Festival in Austria has been supported as a part of this exceptional partnership. This experience has been absolutely transformative for our students. It has changed their perceptions about what is possible in their lives. We are very grateful for this amazing opportunity.”
Officially the college sent five: Dean Nancy Uscher, Andrew Vasquez (student violist), Kimberly James (who was a soloist in two works for orchestra, choir and vocal soloists), and two students who sang in the choir. Additionally there was an alumnus violist, and a bassoonist who is a DMA student.

About the Classical Music Festival in Austria
The Classical Music Festival, now in its 49th year, attracts nearly 200 musicians each year to Eisenstadt from around the world to study and perform classical music with an emphasis on the works of Joseph Haydn. The festival's intensive two week program includes professional musicians, university faculty, teachers, advanced university students as well as individuals who regularly perform with other music groups during the year. This year we have musicians attending from the United States (17 states represented), China, Columbia, Poland, and Austria.
