Dr. Marta Plominska and Dr. Dawid Mzyk have been chosen as recipients of the prestigious UNLV Doctoral Graduate to Postdoctoral Scholar Fellowship Program, making them the first recipients from the College of Fine Arts in the program's history.
Dr. Marta Plominska is a Polish flutist who completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Performance at UNLV in Spring 2023. She is now a Postdoctoral Scholar in the College of Fine Arts and also serves as the Director of the Las Vegas Flute Ensemble. Dr. Plominska has won numerous national and international competitions, including the South Carolina Flute Society YAC, Grand Prize Virtuoso International Competition, and Flute Society of Kentucky YAC. She is also an esteemed international adjudicator, having served on panels for competitions such as the Stockholm International Competition in Sweden, Muse International Competition in Greece, Montana Symphonies YAC, MAP International Competition in CA, and the Silver State Competition.
Dr. Dawid Mzyk is a trombonist from Poland who also earned his DMA in Music Performance at UNLV in Spring 2023. He has performed with prestigious orchestras such as the Krakow Philharmonic, Krakow Opera, Las Vegas Philharmonic, and Pan-European Philharmonic, and has collaborated with esteemed conductors including Krzysztof Penderecki, Hans Zimmer, Tan Dun, and Alexandre Desplat. Dr. Mzyk has also been recognized for his talent, winning national and international competitions such as the American Trombone Workshop National Solo Competition in Washington D.C., NY Golden Classical Solo Competition at Carnegie Hall, and the National Chamber Music Competition in Warsaw.
Both Dr. Plominska and Dr. Mzyk, as experienced performers and educators, prioritize lifelong learning and have plans for further professional development through creative and scholarly activities.
