The Department of Teaching and Learning is searching for a visiting faculty position. 

The person in the position will:

  • Conduct all field experience for an accelerated licensure program for paraprofessionals locally and to specific additional sites statewide
  • teach educator preparation courses in an accelerated licensure program for paraprofessionals

This is a full-time, B-contract academic faculty position. This is a one-year contract position that is annually renewable up to at least three years. The position requires in-person, daytime availability so could not be done in conjunction with another full-time position. 

Compensation:

  • $50,500 for 9-month position; possible additional summer work/compensation

Requirements:

  • Master's degree

      • For candidates with master's degrees, the position is titled Visiting Lecturer
      • For candidates with doctoral degrees, the position is titled Visiting Assistant Professor
  • Experience with substantial outreach to local schools and community-embedded organizations (reliable transportation needed, mileage reimbursement provided); ability to periodically travel to additional sites statewide (travel reimbursement provided)

  • Local to the Las Vegas area, or willing to relocate by October 2024

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Commitment to working with PK-12 school communities, students and families, and community-embedded organizations in the preparation of teachers

  • Meaningful and otherwise successful engagement with caregivers, parents, guardians, families, and extended families of PK-12 school students in Communities of Color, especially in Southern Nevada and specific additional communities statewide

  • 3-5 years of experience working with/in schools/communities, in non-profit community-embedded organizations or groups, and/or in social justice-oriented/grassroots advocacy roles with historically and persistently marginalized, minoritized, and other underserved/underrepresented student populations, especially in Southern Nevada and specific additional populations statewide

  • Experience advising, guiding, and mentoring first-generation college students (of all ages) from historically and persistently marginalized, minoritized, and other underserved/underrepresented communities, especially in Southern Nevada and specific additional communities statewide
  • Experience working as a liaison between PK-12 schools and higher education teacher preparation programs

  • Experience teaching lesson planning

  • PK-12 school classroom teaching experience

  • Interested in/knowledgeable about current topics in education

  • A highly collaborative collegial disposition characterized by a willingness to be fully present with PK-16 students and faculty colleagues

  • Direct experience living and/or organizing in/with working class/working poor communities
