Why did you choose UNLV? What led you to pursue your degree in higher education?

While I did my undergrad in Washington, I always wanted to explore the education programs at UNLV. I moved back to Las Vegas due to COVID-19, a blessing in disguise because I noticed that UNLV had more of a community, and all signs pointed toward the College of Education programs. I wanted to be more involved with multicultural education and representing local heritage.

What is your current position, and how did UNLV prepare you for your career?

I started working as a Field Coordinator and Research analyst at the University of Nevada, Reno, right after completing my master's. I’m involved with the local environment while collecting data from evaluations of childcare projects and practices. UNLV has provided me with a sense of community, which has still stuck with me. My ultimate goal is to return and earn my Ph.D.

Fun facts about yourself? Favorite class at UNLV?

I was born and raised in Las Vegas and enjoy making pottery. My favorite classes were the incorporation of ethnic studies and cultural studies in education. Also, disrupting the school-to-prison pipeline.

Why should alums stay engaged at UNLV?

Alums should maintain bonds and relationships that continue even after graduation while increasing their contacts and connections with the university. Plus, it gives you chances to attend events and be involved.
