This year UNLV was invited to not only attend the 2024 National Cybersecurity Education Colloquium (NCEC), but also to exhibit the University’s unique, student-led Cyber Clinic

The University was one of only a few National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CD) designees invited to showcase their Cyber Clinic to other colleges interested in starting their own, and to top academic and government leaders in the cybersecurity field.

The main goal of the event, which took place in St. Louis, MO, was to tackle the increasing need for cybersecurity education, training, and workforce development in the nation. Cyber clinics can play an integral role in providing students the real-world, hands-on experience that today’s employers are looking for.

Directors and faculty of CAE programs attended informational sessions led by Department of Defense (DoD), National Security Agency (NSA) and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) personnel that included new grant opportunities, program accreditation and cybersecurity research topics.

Representing UNLV at NCEC were Computer Science Professors and UNLV Cyber Clinic Director and Associate Director Yoohwan Kim and Juyeon Jo, along with cybersecurity students and UNLV Cyber Clinic members Bianca Ionescu, Christian Rodriguez and Arturo Roman.

The event gave students an opportunity to hone their presentation skills, network with leaders in the cybersecurity field, and make connections to help other academic institutions follow UNLV’s lead in starting their own cyber clinics.
