In February, members of the UNLV Cyber Clinic participated in Lied STEM Academy’s Introduce a Kid to Engineering Day (IKED) as part of their Lied STEM Rebel Navigator Day. This marked the second consecutive year the Clinic participated in the event.

Dozens of young students from elementary to middle school had the chance to explore science and engineering through interactive sessions and demonstrations. UNLV Cyber Clinic college members were joined by high school students, part of the Clinic's Junior Members program, to introduce the younger kids to basic cybersecurity concepts and practices.

Featured activities included a phishing card game in which kids were given email "cards" and had to determine whether each was safe or potentially malicious. A small leaderboard ran on the side so students could see how many phishing attempts they caught, adding a bit of competition to the learning experience.

Another activity guided students through creating strong, secure passwords. Once they made a password, they could test its strength using an online tool that revealed how long it might take someone to crack it.

The event was an excellent opportunity for UNLV and Cyber Clinic students to engage in meaningful community outreach while helping educate younger audiences about cybersecurity and how to stay safe online.
