Engaging the next generation of cybersecurity professionals is of utmost importance as the U.S. works to fill the nation’s cybersecurity workforce gap. In addition to hosting GenCyber Camps for middle and high school students, UNLV’s Cyber Clinic works towards this goal by meeting with area high school cyber clubs to offer guidance and mentorship, and recruit Junior Cyber Clinic Members.
One such opportunity came along recently through Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy, representing District D. Commissioner McCurdy asked a few Clinic members to join him for a recent visit to A-TECH’s Cybersecurity Club.
The meeting was being held by the current Cybersecurity Club president to introduce new A-TECH students to the Club and how they could get involved.
The UNLV Cyber Clinic, represented by Samer Youssouf and Christian Nathan Rodriguez, was there to share information on the Clinic, and options for high school students to join the Junior Member program. They were also there to provide input on a funding proposal the Cyber Club was presenting to Commissioner McCurdy.
We’re excited to see what will result from the extra support, and if A-TECH could become the first “Junior Cyber Clinic” in the Las Vegas Valley!
