In September, the UNLV Cyber Clinic was invited to the Datasec Cybersecurity CISO Innovation Summit, where members presented the Clinic's mission, emphasizing its student-led approach to addressing cybersecurity challenges.
Hosted at the International Innovation Center of Las Vegas, the event gathered experts from leading companies such as Orrick and representatives from institutions like the College of Southern Nevada and the University of Arizona.
Armen Abnous, a representative from Datasec, invited the Cyber Clinic back after listening to the presentation earlier this year at Tech Alley Las Vegas. Tech Alley Las Vegas is a monthly event that brings together tech enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, and innovation groups to promote networking, mentorship, and collaboration within the local tech and startup community.
Members of the Cyber Clinic kicked off the event by presenting their approach to conducting cybersecurity assessments for local small businesses and the collaborative structure that provides students with hands-on real-world job experience. They highlighted key initiatives, including the Junior Member program and certification opportunities, further enhancing student skill development.
The one-day event, filled with cutting-edge discussions, networking opportunities, and insights into the latest trends in cybersecurity, offered students insights into new leading technologies and businesses in Las Vegas, such as ZOOX and Strongest Layer.
The summit also provided a rare opportunity to network with industry leaders, cybersecurity professionals, and CISOs (Chief Information Security Officers) who gave students advice and tips about securing a job within the cybersecurity field.
The event was a fantastic opportunity for students to network, connect, and spread the word about the clinic.
