UNLV's Physics and Astronomy department is at the forefront of astrophysics, with professor Bing Zhang and an international team of astrophysicists' discovery of a unique cosmological gamma-ray burst that defies prevailing theories of how the violent cosmic explosions form. This remarkable burst, described as an "oddball," has led the team to propose a new model specific to certain types of bursts.
