Department Overview

The Project Management Organization (PMO) is a shared services support unit designed to serve the project management needs of UNLV Business Affairs Administration. These are identified through regular interactions with each unit, governance interactions, and requests for project management.

Customers and Stakeholders

With the exception of expanded agreements, the Project Management Organization is an internal service provider for business units within UNLV Business Affairs, Administration:

Projects are defined by Chartered Agreements, Project Scopes, and Project Plans and may require financial obligations from Project Sponsors. Services are provided for all stakeholders identified, regardless of affiliation.

The Project Management Organization provides project services ancillary to those offered by other UNLV Project Management teams, often working with external project teams as colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Work is considered a project if it meets one or more of the following criteria:
    • It requires more than 120-hours of work for a single person
    • If procurement includes trackable services or meets competitive thresholds
    • It requires collaboration.
    • It meets a mandate (e.g. such as a UNLV Board of Regents mandate)
  • Some common questions to consider when wanting to begin a project:
    • Do I have the resources needed to dedicate to the project?
    • Will this project require procurement?
    • Do I know key stakeholders?
    • Do I have an idea of how long it will take to complete the project?
