We’re looking at an art gallery. To the left, an ornamented pink arch leads into a pink-painted room where a gold arch and filagreed oval pictures are set against the back wall. Boxes attached to the wall by the side of the arch are labelled “New” and “Used.” Pink fabric peeps out of the “Used” box. To the right, a wall of pictures recedes into the distance. At the end of the wall there is a dark hallway; at the mouth of the hallway stands a tall glowing green cylinder, large enough to enclose an adult.

5 p.m.–7 p.m.

Guests who visit the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art during the UNLV Art Walk can view all three of the Museum’s current exhibitions and take part in several unique activities.

-the A4 Zine Club will hold a dynamic “Zine 101” workshop where the community can learn about zines—handmade personal magazines—and create individual zine publications of their own. Materials are free.

-there will be a special pop-up exhibition featuring local and national artists who have donated artworks to the Museum’s annual online art auction. Funds raised during the auction will support Bus to Barrick, the Museum's K-12 field trip program. Visitors will be able to view the artworks on offer and sign up to take part in the auction.

-other entertainments will include refreshments, a wine tasting with the UNLV Wine Society, and live music performed by the UNLV Marimba Band, the UNLV Flute Ensemble, and an Elvis impersonator.

The current exhibitions include Contemporary Ex-votos: Devotion Beyond Medium (contemporary artists respond to historical artworks from Mexico), In Relation (artists explore concepts of motherhood), and P0RTAL (an inspiring installation by Downtown design duo Dream Team Time Machine).

About the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art
The Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art believes everyone deserves access to art that challenges our understanding of the present and inspires us to create a future that holds space for us all. Located on the campus of one of the most racially diverse universities in the U.S., we strive to create a nourishing environment for those who continue to be neglected by contemporary art museums. As the only art museum in the city of Las Vegas, we commit ourselves to leveling barriers that limit access to the arts. Our collection of artworks offers an opportunity for everyone to develop a deeper knowledge of contemporary art in Southern Nevada. The Barrick Museum is part of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.
