The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) is to create and support an environment that promotes the ethical and responsible conduct of research while assisting researchers to comply with federal, state, NSHE, and local regulations with regard to research. Through its key committees, related programs, and administrative activities, the ORI oversees UNLV policies related to research integrity, including the coordination of policy development and policy implementation.

UNLV is committed to performing high-quality research in an ethical manner and in compliance with relevant regulations and policies. Key research integrity areas include the following:

The ORI oversees the university’s research compliance committees, including the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (IACUC), and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC). These committees review proposed research to ensure research activities align with federal, state, and local laws and regulations and adhere to best practices in ensuring the welfare of people, animals, and places. The review activities undertaken by each committee are to be conducted objectively and without undue influence over deliberations or processes. Compliance committee members, chairs, ORI staff, investigators, or research participants who feel that an attempt has been made to unduly influence the activities of a compliance committee, their review processes, or the application of related policies and procedures, may contact the Institutional Official (IO), Associate Vice President for Research, the ORI Executive Director, or compliance committee chair to report a concern.

Depending on the nature and origin of the concern, one of the above-designated persons will review the report and take corrective action if deemed necessary.

Should the concern involve UNLV administration or officials for UNLV, UNLV School of Medicine, or other UNLV entities, the affected compliance committee maintains the right to contact the appropriate federal agency directly should the above processes become inadequate or present a conflict of interest.
