Athletic Training Program at UNLV
About the UNLV Athletic Training Program
The UNLV Athletic Training Program (ATP) aims to deliver a comprehensive learning experience that will prepare students to excel as athletic trainers and be engaged professionals. Our competency-based academic model emphasizes professionalism, community involvement, knowledge and skill acquisition, and workforce preparation. The program achieves this through various teaching approaches, including hands-on laboratory experiences, interprofessional activities, and online and blended learning modalities. We also assess student and program outcomes to track and inform programmatic change for continual improvement.

- Students completing the degree requirements are eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) examination for athletic trainers. Graduating students must take and pass the BOC exam to become a licensed athletic trainer.
- In addition to taking and passing the BOC exam, graduating students must apply for licensure to practice as an athletic trainer in each U.S. state or territory where they will work.
- The UNLV Athletic Training Program encourages all prospective and current students to fully explore the licensure requirements in each state(s) where they wish to practice in the future. For more details regarding state licensure, visit National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) webpage. The NATA provides students and current licensees with contact information for the respective Athletic Training Licensing Boards for all U.S. states and U.S. territories, as well as useful tools to determine state by state licensing requirements.
- Non-Educational requirements, as outlined in NRS 640b and NAC 640b (as of May 2020), include the following: Must pass national exam; must submit fingerprints and background check; must submit an application and pay a fee; must be of good moral character.
- Those planning to apply for a license to practice Athletic Training in Nevada are encouraged to review the relevant Nevada statutes and regulations regarding the practice of Athletic Training. Learn more at the Nevada Athletic Training Board website.
