UNLVolunteers
About
UNLVolunteers provides meaningful service opportunities for our UNLV community in 5 different impact areas:
Volunteers who focus their service on the environment aim to promote sustainable systems in our local community. This includes serving in community gardens, wilderness restoration, and urban sustainability. Volunteers are empowered to learn about environmental justice issues affecting marginalized communities including regulatory policy and climate change.
Volunteers focused on health and wellness serve to increase community access to healthcare resources. This includes service with organizations that focus on senior citizens, mental health, and nutrition. Students are empowered to learn about social justice issues affecting health and wellness including equitable access to healthcare resources for marginalized communities.
Service programs focused on housing and food insecurity strive to meet immediate community needs and address systemic issues of poverty. This includes service with food pantries and shelters. Students are empowered to learn about social justice issues affecting poverty alleviation including policy.
Youth service programs aim to improve the well-being of children and young people. This includes service with schools and organizations that focus on youth wellness. Students are empowered to learn about social justice issues affecting youth including taking action to increase access and reduce barriers to quality education.
Our general impact programs aim to promote all other forms of service that are not captured by our four other impact areas. This can be a very broad range of service, from serving lunch to our houseless community with our community partners, to providing company to our elderly community for a couple of hours at many of the nursing homes found throughout the Vegas Valley
Get Involved
Students can get involved with UNLVolunteers by simply coming to our service events, attending our monthly general meetings, or becoming part of our executive board.
UNLVolunteer Events
Signature Events
Service Day
Service Day is a twice-a-semester service event where UNLV students participate with various community partners for three hours of service. Participation in Service Day is open to all UNLV students, faculty, and alumni.
DASH
DASH is one of UNLV’s longest running traditions on campus. Our DASH service project prepares lunch sacks for UNLV students to hand out to our Vegas houseless community. Held two times of the month during the academic year, DASH is open to any and all UNLV students, faculty, and alumni.
Leadership Opportunities
Be a UNLVolunteers Program Assistant
Interested in planning service events on campus? Apply to be a UNLVolunteers Program Assistant! Applications open late in the spring semester, and, depending on need, may be open year-round. The term runs from May to May.
Program assistants work to develop the skills and knowledge needed to plan service projects and facilitate education and reflection activities for participants.
