Geraldine "Gerrie" Cowden
Feb. 1, 2024

Geraldine (Gerrie) Cowden passed away earlier this week. Gerrie was not only an integral member of UNLV at the Honors College, but she was also a student in our school counseling program.

Faculty who worked alongside Gerrie spoke of her always being a teacher, mentor, and guide. She often called upon the stories of her past to explain the complexities of the present. It was a privilege to get a glimpse at her personal and professional lived experiences as she weaved these narratives into her discussions in class. She will be greatly missed not only by students in the counseling program, but also the thousands of students that she served while at the Honors College throughout the years.

Gerrie recognized that, in being lifelong learners, we are still learning how to better adapt, see the world, and change as needed. Her combined wisdom with a spirit to learn new things made a good recipe for doing well at whatever she aimed for.

The Honors College has scheduled a celebration of life ceremony for Friday, Feb. 9 In addition, those who wish to share a message of gratitude for Gerrie's life, the Honors College has a remembrance book in their lounge. This book will be a place for those who knew her to convey their thoughts and fond memories of Gerrie.

In the words of Gerrie – keep yourself grounded,
